Orlando Pirates Coach Jose Riveiro To Step Down

After spending nearly three seasons with the Pirates, Jose Riveiro will step down at the end of the 2024-2025 Betway Premiership Season. This was affirmed by the Orlando Pirates website on Thursday, April 3, 2025.

In a statement issued by the club, they conveyed appreciation for Riveiro’s efforts and recognized his dedication and professionalism. Club president Irvin Khoza stated, “While we would have liked José to extend his stay with us, at the same time, we fully respect his decision. We are grateful for everything he has done for the club.”

Riveiro’s time with the Buccaneers has been characterized by notable successes. Since taking office in June 2022, he has guided the team to several trophies, notably consecutive MTN8 and Nedbank Cup championships. With his leadership, Orlando Pirates similarly achieved a significant presence in the CAF Champions League, reaching the group stages and showcasing impressive performances against tough rivals.

He secured five domestic trophies, which include three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups, aiming to defend the Nedbank Cup this season. He also secured two Carling Black Label All Stars trophies while he was in South Africa.

The club has announced that there will be no additional comments regarding this issue until the season concludes, as they continue to concentrate on their current efforts. The search for a new head coach will start right away to guarantee a smooth transition before the 2025/26 season.

Supporters and stakeholders are advised to keep an eye on official club communications for news about the selection of a new head coach and other related updates.
