The Premier Soccer League Postpones The Nedbank Cup Quarter Final Encounter Between Sundowns FC And Sekhukhune United

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) issued a statement on Friday evening, 07 March 2025, announcing that the Nedbank Cup quarter-final match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United, originally scheduled for Saturday, 8 March 2025 at 20:00 at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, has been postponed. This follows the South African Football Association (SAFA’s) post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, announcing that the South African Under 17 Women’s team will host the Nigerian Under 17 Women’s team for the Under 17 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifier match on the samr date at 15:00.

The stadium was ensured through a comprehensive agreement granting the PSL exclusive management of the venue before and during match day, with all preparations ready for the game. Upon discovering that the stadium had confirmed a booking for the under 17 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifier at 15:00 on that same date, the PSL addressed the matter urgently, including a demand for assurance that the stadium agreement would be honored; otherwise, the league would need to acknowledge that it had been repudiated.

The guidelines of the Nedbank Cup regarding stadium access for participating teams cannot permit two matches at the venue within the planned timeframe. This also encompasses safety disciplines.

“The League will investigate the matter fully to establish how this situation arose. Unfortunately, under these circumstances the League has been left with no option but to cancel the stadium agreement and postpone tomorrow’s match,” said The PSL in a statement released on Twitter.

“The PSL extends an apology to all stakeholders of the beautiful game who were preparing to watch the Quarter final tomorrow. The League will deal responsibly with the rescheduling of the match in compliance with the law and the League Compliance Manual and the public will be kept informed,” concluded the PSL in a statement.

The League advised all fans who bought the match tickets to safeguard them for the new fixture date, which will be announced in due course. Unfortunately, this misunderstanding will impact not just the supporters but also the vendors who intended to conduct business at the stadium during the match. This comprises individuals who have made arrangements to conduct business in the stadium suites.
