TS Galaxy Bows Out Of The Nedbank Cup Race

In May 2019, TS Galaxy shocked Kaizer Chiefs with a 1-0 victory in the Nedbank Cup final for the 2018-2019 season at Moses Mabhida Stadium. The results had Galaxy emerge as the first National First Division (NFD) team to claim the title after a stunning defeat of the record 13-time champions, Chiefs. Six years later, TS Galaxy, also known as The Rockets, were shocked by another NFD team, Durban City, at Chatsworth Stadium on Friday, 14 February 2025.

The Rockets netted the opening goal of the game in the 49th minute by a Bosnian striker Dženan Zajmović, renowned recently for his impressive goals. Puso Dithejane found him unmarked in the box and he used his chest to net his goal.

Zajmović’s goal was nullified by the Namibian ex-Baroka FC forward Joslin Kamatuka in the 79th minute, who tapped in the equalizer from Ruzaigh Gamaldien’s assist. Kamatuka emerged from the bench and turned into a stellar substitute.

The game proceeded to extra time with a score of 1-1. TS Galaxy was denied a clear penalty during the first half of extra time when City’s defender handled the ball in the box, but the referee’s assistant ruled it offside, even though the offside occurred after the handball.

In the 107th minute, Senzo Ndlovu put City ahead by scoring an impressive header, advancing them to the quarter finals of the 2025 Nedbank Cup Tournament.

The quarter finals draw will take place on Monday, 17 February 2025.
